Reid
Christie is a painter of
landscapes, although
he can paint any subject
with which he is
familiar. Christie
is strongly influenced
by the Hudson River
School of painters - how
light reflects,
refracts, and passes in,
around and through this
world in which we
live. When
Christie composes a
piece, he breaks it down
to a simple, radial
composition as possible.
He then takes this
simple composition and
adds to it through
geometrical angles and
lines, as much as
possible, without
transcending that point
in which the painting
cannot be
understood. Once
these basic premises
have been completed, he
may add small figures to
the piece, generally for
composition
purposes.
Born in 1951, Christie
is a native to
Wyoming and graduated
from the University of
Wyoming with a Bachelor
of Fine Arts Degree in
1981. Christie's
work can be found in
collections throughout
the United States,
Europe, and Asia.
His paintings are in the
permanent collections at
the Buffalo Bill
Historical Center, the
Shoshone First Bank in
Cody, Wyoming, the
University of
Wisconsin-Madison and
the Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, MN Reid
is also the 2008 Artist
of the Year for the
Rocky mountain Elk
Foundation. He
currently lives in Cody,
Wyoming with his wife
and two children. |
