R. W. Hedge |
I started painting with oils when I was 15, but I really don't remember becoming an artist. When I first realized that something in the hand can make a mark, I started spending serious time with pencils, pens, and crayons. Then I started getting those little water color sets and felt tips at the dime store. I've always been amazed by the miracle of nature, especially natural wonders and pristine wilderness. I love it all the big things, the little things, the wild animals all of it has my attention. And now I strive to paint things the way they look when I'm actually there.
I was born in Tyler, Texas on June 5th, 1954. As an artist I have traveled extensively and lived in other states such as Arizona and Colorado to gain knowledge and inspiration for my paintings. I name Texas as my home, but can find myself at home wherever the landscapes are compelling.
Being overwhelmed by the natural wonders in America that I refer to as "God's best work" has given me all the reason I need to paint. It's exciting to see this country that is an artist's paradise, but my greatest joy is bringing a real part of it into the lives of others. |
