Greg Kelsey |
 Greg Kelsey's artistic calling began in college as an Art Education major
at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
He tried his hand at sculpting in late 1997 and discovered an amazing
eye for proportion and fluidity of motion. Greg's sculpture reflect
his respect for, and enchantment with, the Old West and Native
American History. Of his art, Kelsey comments, "There's a
thrill in creating a piece, working and reworking it until it comes to
life. I have to see that bit of life in it before I'm satisfied,
before I'll move on.
Greg Kelsey was born in Texas and raised in both Oklahoma and Texas. The West is in
his blood. Greg grew up working with his grandfather's
registered longhorn herd and developed a love for ranching and cowboy
living.
Greg won the Artists' Choice Award with his sculpture,
"Little Brother of War" at the C.M. Russell Art Auction in
March 2001. It was his first time to attend the auction and his
first juried show.
Greg Kelsey's other awards include the 2002 First Place Sculpture
Award at the National Finals Rodeo Open Art Show for
"My Own Buckin' Business", and the 2003 Best Sculpture Award
at the Night of the Artists hosted by The National
Center for American Western Art - Home of the Cowboy Artists of
America Museum for "Little Brother of War".
