Gerry
Metz is a painter and sculptor of Old West subjects. He was born,
raised and educated in Chicago where he attended Wright Junior College
from 1961 to 1962 and the School of Professional Art from 1963 to
1964. Gerry was also a commercial artist and director of the Village
Art School in Skokie, Illinois as well as an instructor of oil
painting and life drawing at the Phoenix Art Museum. Gerry currently
resides in Arizona and devotes his time into being an artist.
Through his art Gerry delights
in his visual experiences and translates them in paint for our
enjoyment. He paints from the heart to capture historical scenes with
a clarity and presence that places a viewer back in the 1800's to the
time of the mountain men, pioneers and the cattlemen who gave our
country its foundation. Gerry also enjoys painting floras, fly-fishing
scenes and landscapes that have also captured a wide following. All of
these subjects underscore Gerry’s free spirit and his enjoyment of the
outdoors. By riding on horseback into wilderness, snow-shoeing in the
high country and just simply observing and enjoying the fresh air and
changes in light, Gerry is able to imagine what the inhabitants in his
paintings might have experienced. Gerry tries to capture this essence
of realism in his paintings and convey for the viewer the true spirit
of the West.
Gerry’s paintings can be found
in the personal collections of Burt Reynolds and Willard Marriott. His
paintings are also in the permanent collections of the Favell Museum
in Klamath Falls, Oregon, the Wrigley Mansion Private Collection,
Miles Laboratories, Franklin Mint, Valley National Bank in Arizona,
and K & K Insurance in Indiana. Gerry has also been featured in
Western Horseman magazine.
