D. Michael Thomas

D. Michael Thomas grew up working on cattle ranches in remote Western Wyoming, then earned a degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science from the University of Wyoming in 1977. His lifetime of hands-on experience gives his bronzes authenticity of form and movement, as well as personality and feeling.

With no formal training, D. Michael Thomas has been sculpting since 1976 and learning the intricacies of sculpting and the bronzing process through study, hard work, trial and error.

In 1993, D. Michael Thomas took the "Big Plunge" into full-time sculpting. He has been the recipient of many awards including the State of Wyoming Governor's Art Award; Best of Show at the Phippen Western Art Show in Prescott, AZ; and the Spirit of the West Show in Cheyenne, WY. He has been featured in the Jan-Feb 1999 and July-Aug 2001 issues of Art of the West magazine.
