• Of all the Plains tribes it was the Cheyenne who, though small in number, were the most distinguished in battle, overcoming most that opposed them.
  
  As in most of the plains tribes, the warriors of the Cheyenne tribe were organized into six societies. Of these societies it was the Hotametaneo'o (Dog Soldier) Society that left the greatest impact.
  
  These Dog Soldiers were the elite military society in the Cheyenne Tribe, waging war and policing the tribe for many years. They were the last line of defense for the people.
